Rehab at The Bardo
Getting Started
To enter the extended rehabilitation stay at The Bardo, you will have completed a detox at The Bardo, at home, or at a different facility of your choosing. But first you must get through physical withdrawal symptoms before we can move forward with your recovery.
Detox is about separating you from the substance of concern, usually with the aid of withdrawal medication to alleviate the symptoms associated with withdrawal. Your rehabilitation stay will move into the emotional and psychological areas of recovery through therapy and counselling, and build on your overall physical wellness.
If you haven’t completed our Detox program then you will need to undergo an initial assessment to determine if you are ready to enter into rehab or whether a detox is required.
This assessment allows us to develop a plan tailored to your individual needs.
Please review our Detox program to learn how to get started if you have not completed Detox yet.

Rehab at The Bardo
Private and Confidential
Your stay at The Bardo is strictly confidential – we place your privacy at the core of the recovery process. Although the stigma associated with substance use issues is declining we feel the first stages of recovery require the privacy and sanctuary that it deserves. The person seeking recovery should own the time and place they chose to reveal these matters and we will provide strategies on handling difficult encounters when you return to your life outside.
Our address is unavailable to the general public and is revealed to guests only when they’re ready to begin treatment. We will collect you from an agreed location and drive you to The Bardo.
Records will only be shared with treating practitioners and we do not share details of your treatment with anyone that you do not want us to.
Treatment
Rehab at The Bardo typically lasts three to four weeks and builds upon the foundation you established during Detox.
During your stay, you’ll have access to a wide range of evidence based treatment options and activities that engage the body and heal the mind. Counselling sessions are a core foundation to our rehabilitation process. In these sessions you’ll learn more about your addiction as you work one-on-one with a member of our professional staff.
You will also have the opportunity to include friends and family in counselling if you desire. It can be extremely comforting having those closest to you being able to understand and support you at this time.
After your stay, you’ll leave rejuvenated and ready to enter your new life. However, maintaining sobriety requires ongoing effort – It’s one thing to have a breakthrough in the safety of Rehab, but quite another to apply it to your everyday life.
This is why you’ll leave The Bardo with a comprehensive recovery plan including six aftercare counselling sessions to help you adjust to your new life. Extra sessions are available at additional cost .
To help maintain your sobriety, we also offer short term relapse prevention stays and respite care so you can return during challenging times in your recovery journey.
The Bardo’s trained staff will organise an intake assessment over the phone within 24 hours, and together a plan will be created for your admission. During this assessment, identification of any detox needs will be discussed.
The prescriber will organise an appointment to discuss your medication needs, prior to arrival. Your medications will be securely kept at The Bardo and provided to you during your stay according to your prescribed withdrawal regime.
A letter is required from your doctor stating that they are medically fit for detox. Guests who have already detoxed can be admitted to The Bardo for the rehab program any day of the week.
Our complementary therapists offer a range of modalities to complement your detox and rehab, including:
- Addiction and Generalised Counselling
- Diet, supplementation and nutritional advice to optimise recovery
- Massage, yoga, acupuncture
- Personal training and exercise for health and wellbeing
- Recreational pursuits
- Social and spiritual development opportunities depending on personal interests
During the detox phase, medication is an important strategy to help minimise side effects such as cravings, anxiety and difficulty sleeping. This is called pharmacotherapy, which is a specialised area of medicine. Before your arrival, you will see an external prescriber who will prescribe appropriate medication for your time at Bardo, while you are going through detox. Guests may also choose to have their own practitioner prescribe medications during their stay. When this occurs, Bardo staff will communicate with the practitioner to ensure clarity around the medication regime that is being prescribed. During your stay, our staff will supervise your medication administration to ensure you are safe.
